ADERONKE'S FASHION HOUSE: HACKS TO MAKE YOUR WHITE SNEAKERS LOOK LIKE YOU JUST BOUGHT THEM

It's so obvious at this point that white sneakers has become an essential wardrobe staple—Both gents and fashion ladies are now obsessed with wearing white sneaks as it can virtually go with any outfit cos white is a universal neutral color.

Sure, we can't deny how white sneakers makes an outfit come out fabulous but the aspect that is not frequently discussed is how to keep them looking white and fresh after some days of sporting them. Here is a handful of hacks to take care of them so they look as good as the day you bought them.

1. The most essential way to keep your white sneaks looking all new and one that has worked for me is:

▶ Mix a tablespoon of baking soda, 1/2 tablespoon water, and 1/2 tablespoon hydrogen peroxide in a small mixing bowl until it becomes an even paste. De-lace the shoes, and gently brush the mixture into the surface preferably with a soft bristled toothbrush (you don’t need to press hard, just enough to brush away the surface dirt, and work the mixture into the surface).

Add another coat of the mixture by lightly painting it evenly over the shoe. Add the laces to the remaining mixture, and stir them in. After all, place both your shoes and laces outside in bright sunlight. (The sun helps the mixture work to turn the shoes bright white again. The brighter and hotter the day the better.) Then finally leave them out for 3–4 hours, or until the mixture is dry and cracking off.

2. Use a magic eraser or just a rag dipped in vinegar:

This little sponge is a godsend when it comes to keeping your sneaks scuff-free. Use it to spot-treat stains by wetting it and gently buffing out marks on the canvas…or the rubber. But if you don't have anything like that on hand, take a washrag and dip it in vinegar. Rub gently to remove small stains. Voilà!

3. Use white nail polish or nail polish remover:

If you see a little scratch or smudge on your spankin'-new white sneaks, just take out your favourite white nail polish and do a little touch-up. It works wonders! But for real stains, pour a small amount of nail polish remover on a cotton ball—you don’t need a ton. In a circular motion, rub on the spots of the sneakers you want to clean. If needed, use a damp paper towel to remove excess nail polish remover residue.

4. Use mild shampoo on any oil stains:

Say you got an oil smudge right on the heel of your shoe or dropped an oily food on your new sneakers, grab a clean cloth (or an old toothbrush) and bust out your mildest shampoo. Use warm water and gently rub the area until it gets a little sudsy. You should see the stain start to lift!
